As Performance 10th Year sponsoring the North of England Tarmac Rally Championship

The championship is promoted and run by the Tyneside Motor Sport Group on behalf of the Association of North East and Cumbria Car Clubs.  The idea of the championship was to provide an alternative to the predominately gravel based ANECCC Stage Championship.  And so the series was born in 1985 as it ran with events around the North East of England.  But with the passage of time, the series’ reputation has gone from strength to strength and the catchment area for rallies expanded from the North East of England to cover events in mid Scotland looking north, South West Scotland to the west and Lancashire / Yorkshire in the south.  For more than 30 years now, the Otterburn Ranges have been the backbone of the series as events have come and gone yet we continue to provide good competition for rallying clubmen on sealed surfaces in the North of England area.  Another strength is that during it’s existence there have only been 3 co-ordinators and they have been local competitors in the past too.  Their enthusiasm for providing a championship for the clubman is reflected in it’s continued popularity.

Over the years, the championship has provided many worthy winners as you can see by the drivers and co driver tables on the right, also the wide variety of competition cars that have been driven. Our championship isn't all about the overall winners, we also have class winners that have battled it out during the seasons, and they have gone on to win events out right over the years.

At the beginning of the 2018 season we rewarded all 5 classes for their great efforts, and it will be remaining in 2019. Every registered driver and co driver that finish 1st or 2nd in their championship class on any round will recieve a token trophy plus a draw card

There have been many sponsors that have supported the championship series over its life time, and  As Performance is celebrating their 10th year! We have had extra support by competitors companies for 2018/19 and i am very greatful for what they have all contributed, we have been able to take the As Performance championship to another level.

AS Performance, the motor sport specialist based at Birtley in the North East of England.  We are delighted that this long-term arrangement continues to grow, as Alyn Stockton is very supportive of the championship.

In 2018 we introduced something special, just for registering you will be entered into the prize draw, and then every driver and co driver in all 5 classes that finish 1st or 2nd in their championship class on any event of our rounds will recieve a token trophy award along with a draw card with your name on, the more cards you get the higher your chance of winning the great prize . The winning ticket will get a free paid entry for xmas stages 2018, this being our first round of the 2019 season, the draw will be at the end of seasons presentation evening held in November.

If you’re interested in competitive, clubman rallying on good sealed surfaces at venues in the North of England and Southern Scotland, then why not come and join us.  For more information, contact Neil Prior the championship coordinator.  Full details can be found in the Contacts page.
